responsibility

Mark Manson emphasized that with great responsibility comes with great power. The statement might sound familiar from what Uncle Ben in the Spiderman movie uttered that with great power comes with great responsibility. This article will help you understand how responsibilities can affect one’s life.

Further, the great philosophy behind the incredible statement is an author of a well-known book, the Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck. He is more convinced with this quote than the original one of Uncle Ben.

There are some problems in life that you are not at fault for but you are responsible for them.

“A lot of people hesitate to take responsibility for their problems because they believe that to be responsible for your problems is to also be at fault for your problems,” Mark stated in his article.

“Responsibility and fault often appear together in our culture. But they are not the same thing. If I hit you with my car, I am both at fault and likely legally responsible to compensate you in some way. Even if hitting you with my car was an accident, I would still be responsible. This is the way fault works in our society. If you fuck up, you’re on the hook for making it right. And it should be that way,” he further explained.

In reality, we are responsible for the experiences that are not our fault. Even more, responsibility is the outcome of the decisions we have made. Bear in mind that we are responsible of our choices and not other people.

“There’s a difference between blaming someone else for your situation and them being responsible for your situation. Nobody else is ever responsible for your situation but you. Many people may be to blame for your unhappiness, but nobody is ever responsible for your unhappiness but you. This is because you always get to choose how you see things, how you react to things. You always get to choose which metric with which to measure your experiences with,” Mark explained.

What matters most is to take responsibility of your problems. Do not be afraid to fail and struggle because it is the greatest mentor in life. It does not only make you stronger but also better.
